GDC Kargil celebrates International Mother Languages Day

Kargil, Feb 21: Department of Hindi, Govt. Degree College Kargil today celebrated International Mother Languages Day (Matribhasha Diwas) in its Seminar Hall. 

Head of the Department Hindi, Stanzin Lhadol, delivered the welcome address and gave a brief introduction about Martibhasha Diwas and its history.

Professor Tsewang Gialson of the Political Science Department delivered an insightful speech on the importance of the Mother Tongue and recited a beautiful poem in his Native Tongue (Darad Aryan Language).

Professor Nasir Ud Din from the English Department delivered a presentation on the “Linguistic History of Purgi Language” highlighting the different languages spoken by Ladakhi people.

A video about the significance of Mother Language by Ted Talks was also played during the seminar. In the end, “Tsod” (Riddles) were asked to the audience in Ladakhi language. About fifty students attended the seminar and immensely benefited from the sessions.
