Srinagar, February 01: Year 2021 in Kashmir in the month of January has witnessed harshest winter in decades  with heavy snowfall , all this has given rise to acute water crisis .
Water crisis because of freezing water taps, springs and supply lines hampered availability of water across Kashmir.
Kashmir valley is reeling under an intense cold wave since the heavy snowfall earlier this month. The intense cold has resulted in the freezing of water supply lines and water bodies in several areas, including Dal lake.
The freezing of water pipes and bathrooms is giving tough time to people with hardly water available to wash face or have even bath.
Be it washing clothes or body masses across Kashmir are facing tough times due to frozen taps and badly hampered water supply .
However, the 40-day harshest winter period known locally as Chillai-Kalan ended  on 31 January, bringing glimmer of hope among the locals that the harsh period is over there would be respite from sub-zero temperatures.
Masses in Kashmir have realized that with very limited facilities and frozen taps the winter in Kashmir is more often than not a painful experience for people of Kashmir.
The night temperature continues to settle several degrees below the freezing point, but there was some improvement across the valley, but harsh minus is still  there.
Chillai-Kalan’ – the 40-day harshest winter period this year in Kashmir has been terrible experience for masses.
