SRINAGAR, Aug 3: An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre who held senior positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Police before his retirement as Director General of Police has dramatically surfaced as “collaborator” and “partner” of a prominent Kashmiri businessman during the current investigation of National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the money allegedly received by the separatists through Hawala and other illegal channels.
According to a dossier prepared by the NIA after weeks of the high-octane investigation, the Srinagar-based businessman, whose residential and business premises, were raided on June 3 and 4, has bought properties and lands at several places in Kashmir including at Ompora and Doodh Pathri (Budgam), Ahmad Nagar and Zaffran Colony (Srinagar). The retired IPS officer’s alleged partner in Srinagar belongs to a highly influential relatives network of senior government officials, top bureaucrats. For decades he (Kashmiri businessman) was known for his proximity to a particular separatist organisation and two militant outfits. He was once arrested in 1990.
