Farooq, Muftis condole Sadiq Ali’s demise

Srinagar: Ruling National Conference president, Farooq Abdullah and patron opposition PDP, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Tuesday expressed grief and shock over the demise of former Member Legislative Assembly, Sadiq Ali.     Farooq Abdullah, union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, expressed grief over the demise of noted poet, writer, environmentalist and former Legislator Sadiq Ali, a statement here said.Dr. Farooq Abdullah expressed sympathy and solidarity with the family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. “Soon after receiving the message about Sadiq Ali’s demise, he rushed to the residence of the late leader and paid homage.”  PDP Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and President Mehbooba Mufti also expressed shock and grief over the demise of the senior politician Sadiq Ali.  Conveying condolences to the family of Sadiq Ali, the two leaders recalled his association with them and described him an honest, dedicated politician, writer and environmentalist who have contributed his life for the betterment of the people. Expressing sympathies with family the two leaders also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul, a statement said here.Sadiq, 65, was admitted on April 12 at the SKIMS for medical complications arising from cardiac surgery in New Delhi last month. He breathed his last on Monday afternoon. He is survived by his wife and four sons.His youngest son, Tanvir was elected as a councilor from Madin Sahab constituency. He also contested the recent assembly elections as an independent candidate.Born into an influential business family, Sadiq completed his education from Aligarh Muslim University. His father Jaffer Ali was a renowned paper machie craftsman.A post graduate in political science, Sadiq entered into politics at a very young age. He was a close associate of National Conference founder, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He held key posts in his forty year political career, including the post of treasurer for consecutive 23 years.As the chairman of Lakes and Water Ways house committee, Sadiq submitted an indepth research paper on the preservation of the world famous Dal Lake.He has also written a comprehensive paper on the deteriorating conditions of the forests of the state.He was currently the member of the high power SEAC committed constituted by the Supreme Court of India. He was also member of state pollution control board and environment board headed by the Chief Secretary.
