Exhibition on International Cartoons held at S.P College

SRINAGAR, APRIL 27(KMW): An Exhibition on International Cartoons was held at S.P. College Srinagar here today. The Exhibition was organized by ICCR, Union Ministry of External Affairs to pay tribute to the legendry cartoonist R.K. Laxman.

The Minister for Education, Syed Nayeem Akhtar Andrabi was the chief guest on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Kashmir University, Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Director School Education Kashmir, Principal S.P College, Principal Amar Singh College, besides the Regional Director ICCR, Srinagar Ayaz Rasool Nazki, galaxy of Cartoonists and large number of students and teaching fraternity were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister said the Government is committed to diversify the education scenario of J&K State to provide opportunities to youth/students to exhibit their talent besides providing ample opportunities of employment.
While appreciating the organizers for holding such exhibitions he hoped that this exhibition will receive due attention from not only the art lovers but also from common man around which the life and works of R.K. Laxman revolved. He said the aim of Cartoon Exhibition is to promote creative art.
The Minister also stressed for inculcating creative activities like cartooning among the students.
Later, the Minister reviewed the functioning of Education department in an officers meeting at Government College of Education and said that the diffused focus has adversely affected our education system as infrastructural development got all the attention and education system’s potential was not optimally used.
He said that teaching atmosphere needs to be made conducive by giving proper attention to both teacher and taught.
Referring to new Transfer Policy, the Minister said that the Policy is just and pragmatic and will redress the problems of our teaching community who feel being held hostage to transfers.
The Minister said that Government will redesign and rejuvenate the entire education system for which Policy is being formulated.
