Islamabad: A former Pakistani minister on Wednesday said that the upcoming visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Pakistan is highly significant.
Talking to IRNA, Senator Lt. Gen (R) Javed Ashraf Qazi of Pakistan Muslim League-Q said that the visit will provide an opportunity for leaders of the two brotherly countries to strengthen their trade and economic ties.
“Iran and Pakistan need each other”, he said.
Qazi expressing his views said that Pakistan should cooperate with Iran irrespective of any American pressure. “This visit is extremely important”, said the lawmaker.
The politician was of the opinion that there is an enormous scope to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy sector.
Former head of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) urged both the governments to come forward with proposals to eliminate barriers and improve regional coordination to enhance the trade links between Iran and Pakistan.
He added that the trade between the two countries had reached an acceptable level, but considering the potential of the two countries, this volume needed to be increased.
Qazi opined that both countries should facilitate each other in all sectors. “I see bright future of Iran-Pakistan relationship,” said the former minister.
