EC Kacho Feroz Inaugurates 15-Day Ice Hockey Training-cum-Tournament for Girls in Kargil

Kargil, January 21, 2026: Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz today inaugurated the 15-day Ice Hockey Training-cum-Tournament for girls, which is participated by around 50 girls.

The training programme is being organised under the banner of Mission Shakti , Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Department of Social & Tribal Welfare, Kargil, in collaboration with the District Youth Services & Sports Office, Kargil, and the Ice Hockey Association Kargil.

In his address, Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz lauded the department for taking such an initiative that opens new avenues for the empowerment of girls. He stated that in Kargil, girls are being provided equal opportunities at par with boys and emphasised the need to continue such supportive mechanisms in the future. He assured all possible support from the Hill Council Kargil for similar initiatives.

Director, Social & Tribal Welfare, Ladakh, Tashi Dolma, in her address appreciated the enthusiasm of the girl participants and highlighted the importance of sports and co-curricular activities alongside academics for a disciplined life. She expressed hope that the training would produce skilled players who would go on to represent UT Ladakh at national and international levels in ice hockey.

District Programme Officer, ICDS, Nargis Banoo, also encouraged the participants and said that the UT Ladakh Administration has been providing funds to empower the girl child. She thanked the Youth Services & Sports Office, Kargil and others for their collaboration in organising the programme.

The programme was hosted by Amina Banoo, Gender Specialist. On the occasion, Child Development Project Officers, officials from the Youth Services & Sports Office, Kargil, and other concerned officers were present.
