SRINAGAR, APRIL 02: Draw of lots (Qurrah) for the selection of Hajj-2016 pilgrims was held today by Hajj Committee of India Mumbai and the online computerized selections were displayed at the State Hajj House Bemina here..
Among others, the Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Nissar Ahmad Wani, ADC Srinagar Aijaz Ahmad, CEO State Hajj Committee Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Hajj Officer, Ali Muhammad Haroon besides large number of intending pilgrims were present on the occasion to witness the draws for Hajj 2016.
While giving details, the CEO State Hajj Committee said this year the State Hajj Committee received a record number of 32298 applications which includes 25384 applicants from general category. He said the total quota allocated for the state is 6359 seats including the special quota for 1500 pilgrims.
He said this is the first time that reserved category applicants are more than the total quota for the state which includes 2905 applicants whose age is above 70 years and designated as category ‘A’, besides 4009 fourth timers who have already applied for three consecutive years without success and designated as category ‘B’ and both the categories include 6914 applicants.
As per the norms ,category ‘A’ applicants are selected as a whole while draw of lots is held for category ‘B’ and for general category applicants, he added.
During the Qurrah 555 applicants among the category ‘B’ remained in the waiting list while as draws were also held for general category who will be selected in case of increase in Hajj quota or cancellations of seats after the waiting list of category ‘B’.
Speaking on the occasion the Additional Commissioner said the Divisional administration has taken up the issue for increase in Hajj quota with Governor’s office so that the matter can be discussed with Union Ministry of External Affairs.
He hoped remaining reserved category applicants and some intending pilgrims from general category will be accommodated for the pilgrimage.
He also extended his greetings to the selected pilgrims for smooth and safe holy journey.
