Srinagar, May 13 (KMW): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday expressed happiness over the National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah for acknowledging that BJP has made inroads in Kashmir especially in Srinagar city.

While reacting to Dr Farooq Abdullah’s assertion that Mufti sahib should be given credit for paving way for BJP’s entry into the state, the BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir in a statement to KMW said: “It seems the memory of Dr Farooq Abdullah is short lived. He has forgotten that National Conference was the first party in the state which joined hands with BJP and Omar Abdullah was the junior minister in the Vajpayee led government.”
Jehangir ridiculed the claim of Dr Farooq Abdullah that “Kashmiri Muslim would never side with BJP.” “Membership drive launched by the BJP has got an overwhelming response and thousands of Kashmiri youth have joined the party. Dr Farooq playing a Muslim card is not going to help NC’s cause,” the BJP spokesman added.
He said, “path breaking initiatives” taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi have negated the propaganda which was unleashed against the party by its political opponents. “BJP is committed to take everyone along irrespective of caste, creed, colour and religion and people have understood it within a short span of time. They have realized that NC fed them with slogans only and failed to do anything for them,” Jehangir said.
He claimed that growing popularity of BJP has unnerved the NC leadership and now it’s trying to take refuge in the religion. “The people friendly approach of the Centre government and PM Modi’s desire to see everyone progress has made the masses believe that BJP is committed to change their destiny,” Jehangir added.
