New Delhi: Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, today inaugurated “The Splendor of Kashmir” an exhibition of exclusive Kashmiri Shawls at the Claridges Hotel, New Delhi.
The exhibition was organised by Mrs. Varuna Anand an internationally acclaimed designer. Dr. Abdullah highly appreciated the work put together by Mrs. Varuna Anand, which was a show case to the traditional art of Kashmiri shawl weaving and embroidery.
The exclusive function was attended by the top social circle of Delhi which included Mr. Suresh Nanda, Chairman Claridges Group, M.K. Ajatshatru, Ritu Singh, Mr. Vicky Shaw, Mr. Bali Khandhari, Senior IAS Officer, Mr. Parvez Dewan, Mrs. & Mr. Kabir Sondhi, Mrs. Neelima Dalmia Adhar and many more.
The exquisite and famous Kashmiri Shawl is known all over the world for enhancing an ensemble with it soft feel, color, texture and natural flowing appearance. Varuna presently based in Jammu & Kashmir for over nine years, considers herself lucky to use her expertise in the development and enhancement of this age old art of the Kashmiri shawls.
The Kashmir shawl is characterized by the elaboration of its design, intricately woven or embroidered. These designs are stylized imitations of Nature, and their glowing brilliance, depth, and enduring qualities of their colours make them essentials in the wardrobes of the rich and famous.
Keeping in view changing tastes of people I along with local workers have tried to give Kashmiri Shawls a new vibrant look, ensuring that it reflects the rich heritage and culture of the region.” says Varuna Anand.
