SRINAGAR, JUNE 07: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today held a meeting with the Chief Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control and officers of concerned departments to review the ongoing dredging and de-silting work of river Jhelum.
The Divisional Commissioner issued instructions for removing of Russian poplars. He directed the concerned officers to work with cooperation and added zeal so that the work of dredging is completed within stipulated time frame.
Giving details through power point presentation, Chief Engineer I&FC said that dredging and de-silting work is going on at war-footing basis, besides removing illegal structures and encroachments from the banks of the river. He said that removing of trees from the banks of river is also apace. The process of restoration, strengthening and beautification of Jhelum embankment is also going on in full swing, the meeting was told.
It was further informed that the latest and state-of-the-art equipments are being used for dredging the river and erection of protection bunds along the river.
