Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today chaired a high level divisional level officers meeting to review the progress made in implementing Panchayat Raj system and transfer of powers to the basic functionaries in the valley.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that by empowering Panchs, Sarpanchs will led to transparency in implementing various socio-welfare schemes which will help in reduction of corrupt practices and ensure benefits will percolate at the grass root level.
Mr. Samoon asked the concerned District Development Commissioners to organise the training programmes for the officials of concerned departments, so that they get acquainted within provision of Panchayat Raj and implement centrally sponsored and other schemes effectively in consultation with Sarpanchs and Panchs of their respective areas. He said Panchs and Sarpanchs would also get training regarding their duties so that progress is ensured at grass root level.
Earlier, Prof. Shahnawaz Aalam presented power point presentation regarding Panchayat Raj system to the participants.
The District Development Commissioners, Director Rural Development, other head of the departments of concerned departments besides Assistant Commissioners Development and District Panchayat officers attended the meeting.
