Snowfall recorded in hilly areas, Srinagar-Jammu NHW open.

SRINAGAR: Officiating Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Abdul Majid Mir today inspected Snow Control Room Srinagar and took stock of the arrangements for snow clearance.
Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Division, Kashmir informed that Valley has been divided into three Zones and 93 snow clearance machines have been deployed. He also informed that one snow clearance machine was also deployed at Srinagar International Airport to conduct a snow clearance mock drill.
Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Kupwara, Handwara, Bandipora, Sopore experienced snowfall with Gulmarg recording a fresh snow depth of 2”, Gurez, 2”, Tuleil, 2”, Z-gali 6”, Furkian Top4”.
The Divisional Commissioner informed that Jawahar Tunnel also experienced fresh snowfall but the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is open for traffic. Chief Engineer Project Beacon Brigadier TPS Rawat personally monitored the snow clearance operation between Qazigund and Banihal.
It was informed that all Deputy Commissioners are personally monitoring the situation and have established Joint snow control rooms in their districts, so that timely action can be taken, in the event of snowfall.
Instructions have been reiterated that only (4×4) vehicles or vehicles with anti-skid chains fitted on tyres will be allowed between Tangmarg and Gulmarg. Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority has been directed to arrange sufficient number of vehicles with anti-skid chains at Tangmarg. (KMW News)
