SRINAGAR, MAY 28 (KMW): As nodal officer for RKVY, Director Agriculture Kashmir Mr. Haroon Malik took review of the centrally sponsored scheme of the Agriculture and all allied departments.
Director Research SKUAST-K, Director Rakhs & Farms, Joint Director Agriculture Extension, all other Heads of Departments or their representatives, such as Fisheries, Horticulture, HPMC, Animal Husbandry, Command Area Development Department and other allied departments attended the meeting.
The Director Agriculture impressed upon the officers to submit action plan under RKVY within a couple of days and prioritize the developmental works as per urgency. He advised the officers that action plan should be formulated in such a way that there should be equitable and judicious distribution to reach out to maximum number of farmers.
For the current financial year, centre is going to grant only 50% under the RKVY Scheme, rest 50% will be state share. Director Agriculture reviewed the expenditure incurred under RKVY for the year 2014-15. The participants informed the Director that liability has been created due to non availability of funds at the end of financial year, and requested for revalidation.
Meanwhile, earlier another meeting was conducted for crop insurance scheme under the chairmanship of Joint Director Agriculture Extension Altaf Ajaz Andrabi, together with Director Rakhs & Farms Ab. Rahim Samoon. The meeting was attended by all District Lead Bank Officers, representatives of Insurance Companies and District Nodal Officers of the Department. Joint Director Agriculture Extension, informed the participants that crops like Saffron, Maize and Paddy have to be brought under the insurance cover, through the Insurance Companies by the participation of banks and Agriculture functionaries. He informed the meeting that 141350 hectares of land is under cultivation under the Paddy crop and 80741 hectares under Maize crop in Kashmir Division, while as it was informed that Saffron growers will have to pay 12% as premium of the total sum assured and for Maize and Paddy Rs. one lakh per hectare will be assured @ premium of 10%. The farmer has to pay 50% of the premium and rest 50% shall be paid by the Centre & State governments equally. The Insurance for these crops will be started after the notification is issued. This has a motive to save the losses caused to farmers to their crops, due to different calamities. The insurance will be mandatory for the loanee farmers.
