Panaji, May 6 The two-time Olympic medallist and India’s ace shuttler P V Sindhu on Friday said that it is difficult to pick the toughest opponent in the international circuit as all of them are of the same standard.
“Right now everybody is of same standards, you can’t think that a higher ranking player will be hard or not beatable and at the same time when you are playing with the low ranked player, you can’t expect that it is going to be an easy win,” she said while speaking at the ongoing Goafest 2022 here.
Fondly recollecting the commencement of her badminton journey, where her parents played a very crucial role, she emphasised on 2012 being a breakthrough year, when she said to herself, ‘If they can do it, why not I?’ referring to her opponent who was an Olympic champion.
About her on-court strategies, she said, “I visualise who I am playing against and discuss strategies with my coach.”
While speaking about winning bronze and missing gold medal, she recalled her father calling and reminding her that, “There is a lot of difference between getting bronze and standing on the podium than being in the 4th position.”
She said Covid-19 ahead of the Olympics was a hard time. “Imagine you have come to the semifinal and you are tested positive. That would have been worse. Thankfully, everything went well and I came back with a bronze,” she said.
The conversation also highlighted aspects of her training, her time on-court and off-court, her journey, and all the tournaments that 2022 has in store for her.
