Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Thursday said the attempt to murder case against its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani by police was proof that “governments from New Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir are scared of Geelani.”

“ A day after police booked him for a serious charge like attempt to murder, Geelani sahib was placed under house arrest on Thursday, without any written order as usual, showing the frustration of governments from Delhi to Kashmir as a result of their failure to face the Hurriyat leader on the political front,” a spokesman of the amalgam said.
“Geelani has cases against him in almost every police station but such cheap tactics have never subdued him. Actually both New Delhi and the Omar-Abdullah government consider banning the political activities of Geelani as their only way out to stop Geelani. However, they should bear in mind that they can never subdue Geelani through such cheap tactics,” the spokesman said.
He said, at the most, by booking him under section 370, the government could put Geelani in jail but the Hurriyat leader had already spent a major part of his life in jails for the cause he has been espousing.
“The attempt to murder case shows that Omar Abdullah is shy of accepting the challenge of facing Geelani politically and has admitted his defeat openly,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the deteriorating health condition of incarnated Hurriyat leader, Mir Hafizullah, the spokesman urged Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to press India for his immediate release.
