Srinagar, 18 January : Two minor children of a Bakerwal (nomad) family from Reasi-Jammu have died of severe cold in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, reports adding that the family was putting up in a tent.
Officials have confirmed the news .
The heartrending episode rattled many humane hearts .
Well known Activist Guftar Ahmad wrote on twitter :” Two children’s of Tribal Community died last night due to biting cold in Devsar area of District Kulgam. In J&K people of tribal community only are without houses don’t know where is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This community is used for vote bank only.”
Journalist Rameez Makhdoomi wrote :Rest in peace and power .
Two minor children of Bakerwal family die of severe cold in Kulgam.This is heartstabbing episode should make us introspect as society .”
The official said that on the intervening night of Sunday—Monday their 6-year-old daughter Shazia Jan also developed some complications due to severe cold and the family immediately shifted her to a nearby healthcare facility.
He said that Shazia died on way to the healthcare facility.
Authorities maintain that they asked the family to shift to a nearby school for shelter but they did not listen.
