DC Kargil convenes District road safety meeting

Kargil, May 01: The Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse, who is also the Chairman of District Road Safety Committee, convened a meeting to review road safety measures and assess accident-prone areas across the district. The objective was to strengthen implementation of safety standards and discuss preventive strategies to reduce road mishaps.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Shri Raam R (IPS), Chief Executive Engineer R&B Ghulam Hussain, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Liyaqat Ali, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain, representative from the Chief Education Office, and Traffic Kargil.

DC Kargil, Shrikant Suse emphasized the need to identify and assess vulnerable areas where the chances of road accidents are significantly higher. He directed the concerned departments to pay special attention to these locations and take preventive measures.

He also stressed the importance of spreading road safety awareness among students. Educational programs and awareness campaigns should be organized in schools, colleges to instill responsible behavior and understanding of traffic rules from a young age.

Another major concern raised was underage driving. The DC pointed out the need for serious monitoring and strict measures to prevent minors from driving vehicles,it may lead to a major risk to public safety.

The issue of school buses not complying with safety norms was also discussed. There are instances of some schools buses do not follow the Supreme Court’s guidelines, putting children’s lives at risk. Immediate assessment and corrective action were recommended in this regard.

Concluding the meeting, the DC stated that a collective and coordinated approach among all stakeholders is essential to ensure road safety. He expressed hope that with joint efforts, these measures will bring effective change in the days ahead.
