Srinagar, Feb 25 (KMW): Authorities Tuesday imposed restrictions on the movements of locals at North Kashmir’s Lolab region after the fierce gun battle between militants and forces erupted on Monday.
According to the reports received by news agency, the authorities had to impose restrictions in the area after the locals demanded the bodies of seven slain militants for the burial.
According to the reports when Police declared that the killed militants were all foreigners, the locals expressed apprehensions over the report. Sarpanch of the area told news agency over phone that the Curfew was clamped down in the area at 12 noon after the people held massive protests and reportedly attacked the some government buildings. According to the reports eleven people including five photojournalists and three policemen have been injured in the protests.
The reports maintained further that the bodies of the slain militants who were seven in number were handed over the people for the performance of religious rites. “There was no local among the killed militants,†said one of the residents of the Lalpora.
The news agency correspondent added from Lolab that the slain militants were buried in the martyrs’ graveyard Lolab amid the pro-azadi slogans. The eye witnesses told that more than eight thousand people participated in the funeral procession of the militants. The civil and police administration according to sources held a detailed meet Tuesday evening over the law and order situation pertaining in the area.
