Srinagar: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Registrar, Dr. Abdul Gani Monday inaugurated a week long workshop on “Research Methodology” at the varsity campus office at Sonwar here.
The workshop is being organized by the Department of Management Studies CUK.
Internationally acclaimed research expert, Prof. V V Haragopal of the Department of Statistics, Osmania University Hyderabad, and Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Coordinator, Department of Management Studies were also present on the occasion.
Addressing participants, comprising faculty, research scholars from Central University of Kashmir and Kashmir University and students, Dr. Abdul Gani underscored the need for conducting quality research work in relevant fields, industry and in different areas of study at a particular place. He said the research helps in creation of knowledge, which is later disseminated through education.
Dr. Abdul Gani said the Universities in United States of America (USA) were ranked mainly on the basis of their research contribution. “The researchers in these universities apply for hundreds of patents every month,” Dr. Abdul Gani said.
He asked the research scholars to do follow up of their study. “The researchers should check as to whether their recommendations have been implemented on ground or not,” Dr. Gani said while referring to the numerous studies conducted by the scholars on the deteriorating condition of world famous Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. V V Haragopal asked the research scholars pursuing their doctorate to conduct the studies thoroughly and with precision. He discussed several methodologies used for conducting research and highlighted the importance of research in the contemporary world.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah in his welcome address said the research is a careful investigation and a systemized effort to search for new facts and gain new insights into a branch of knowledge. “The main aim of the research is to find out the truth, which is hidden or which has not been discovered as yet,” Dr. Farooq Ahmad added.
During the week long workshop, the resource persons drawn from different institutions and led by Prof Haragopal would discuss many research methodology related issues including sampling framework, data collection tools and techniques, questionnaire: designing, validity and reliability, hypothesis setting and testing, data analysis using SPSS, correlation and regression analysis using Minitab, report writing, and descriptive statistics.
