SRINAGAR, MAY 31: Chief Secretary, B R Sharma Tuesday chaired the 2ndmeeting of the State Level High Powered Steering Committee (SHPSC) on Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) here. AMRUT was launched on June-25, 2015 by the Prime Minister along with Smart Cities and Housing for all (Urban) Missions at New Delhi.
Under AMRUT, Central Government releases financial assistance to the States to create basic urban infrastructure that shall lead to provision of better services to public. Presently, Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu and Leh in J&K are covered under AMRUT. More Towns in the State are expected to be included under AMRUT, as these qualify the criteria set for the purpose.
Projects to be taken up under AMRUT include those connected with water supply, sewerage facilities and septage management, storm water drains to reduce flooding, pedestrian-public transport facilities, parking spaces and enhancing amenity value of cities by creating and upgrading green spaces and parks.
The Committee discussed and approved the technically vetted DPRs based on the fund allocation under the approved State Annual Action Plan (SAAP)-2015-16. These identified approved projects will be implemented in AMRUT cities and towns of Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu and Leh.
The Committee also accorded approval to the SAAP-2016-17 with a total allocation of Rs 197.3 Crore.
Principal Secretary, Forest, R K Gupta, Commissioner Secretary, H&UD/Mission Director AMRUT, Hirdesh Kumar, Secretary, PHE, Sanjeev Verma, and other officers were present in the meeting.
