CRPF killed father of three “We were force to open fire” CRPF

Srinagar: A father of three daughters was killed in Zoonimar area of Srinagar on Wednesday when CRPF fired upon him from a close range. Another person injured in CRPF firing is being treated in hospital. CRPF has claimed that fire was opened for protection as hundreds of people had surrounded CRPF vehicle at Saidapora and resorted to heavy stone pelting.
Eyewitnesses told that several CRPF personnel injured in Bemina shoot out were shifted to SKIMS for treatment. “One after the other CRPF vehicles passed from the road. Some boys were playing cricket at Zoonimar and few of them shouted at CRPF personnel while in return CRPF personnel fired on them in anger which resulted in the death of Altaf Ahmed Wani son of Abdul Ahad Wani,” an eyewitness told  adding that one more youth was injured in CRPF firing.
According to reports after leaving the youth in pool of blood CRPF personnel pertaining to 73rd battalion fled from the spot. The youth was rushed to Sher-i-Kashmir Medical Institute where he succumbed to his injuries. “Yes, a youth namely Altaf Ahmed Wani was brought in critical condition in our hospital and he succumbed to his injuries. Two bullets had pierced his chest and we could not save him,” SKIMS Control Room official told.
Meanwhile refuting such allegations, Inspector General CRPF, V.S Yadav said that our men were on way to SKIMS to donate blood to their colleagues who had been critically injured in Bemina shoot out. “As the party reached at Saidapora, people surrounded it and pelted stones on the men. To save themselves from the wrath of the people, our men were compelled to resort to firing,” he said.
The locals said that youth were playing cricket on the road when a CRPF party in three vehicles came rushing and without any reason fired on youth.
A top police official said that the CRPF party belonging to 73rd battalion was rushing towards SKMS to donate blood for the forces personnel who were injured in the Bemina shoot out. “Some youth in Saidapora locality pelted stones on the party who fired some bullets,” The official said added that police is collecting the details.
The locals allege that three people were injured in the Zoonimar firing ancident. Meanwhile police has claimed that CRPF personnel opened fire when the vehicles they were travelling in came under heavy attack. “This afternoon some security personnel were ferried to SKIMS Soura for donation of blood to the victims of Bemina encounter. On their return, the vehicle they were travelling in came under the attack of stone pelting and other missiles at Saidpora, Zonimar, by miscreants. This resulted in opening up of fire, as a result of which one person Altaf Ahmad Wani Son of Abdul Ahad Wani resident of Saidpora was seriously injured,” Police said.
Meanwhile, huge procession was taken out in Zoonimar and hundreds of people participated in last rites of the deceased amid anti-India slogans. Police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the agitated youth.
