Srinagar: Two persons including a CPI (M) worker escaped bid on life in separate attacks by unknown gunmen in Kulgam and Shopian districts of south Kashmir, official sources toldÂ
on Wednesday.
They said that gunmen opened a fire at Mohammad Maqbool, CPI (M) worker, son of Abdul Gani near a Nallah at Hangal-Buch area in Yaripora Kulgam. However, Maqbool escaped hurt in the attack, they said.
When contacted, SP Kulgam, Mubashir Lateefi said that police was investigating the case. “We haven’t recovered bullet cartridge as yet and can’t confirm whether it was fire or firecracker. But police is investigating,†he said.
In another incident, gunmen fired few rounds at the residence of Mohammad Yousuf Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar at Thieran Treen, but there was no injury or loss of life reported in the incident.
When contacted, SP Shopian, Mumtaz Ahmad told PBI that the gunmen knocked at Dar’s residence at around 1145 hours mid night. However, Dar didn’t open the door and after which militants fired indiscriminate fire on the house. There was no loss or injury to life reported in the incident, he added.
Locals said that Dar was likely to contest elections for Sarapanch post. However, the SP said that police can’t confirm it since he was yet to file nomination papers.
A bomb scare on Srinagar-Baramulla road turned out to be a hoax. Sources said that Road Opening Party of Army found suspicious article on road side near Khanpora area on the Highway in north Kashmir, prompting it to inform the police and Bomb Disposal Squad.
While police and army sealed off the area to bar traffic movement, BDS sleuths scrutinized the article and nothing aversive was found. Later traffic was restored through the area, they added.
Police claimed to have busted a militant hide-out in the forest area of Laribal, Tral Awantipora in Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said that Police and 42 RR recovered two Chinese hand grenades , a Detonator, a letter pad of HM, twenty meters Electric wire, a Rubber stamp, a Stamp pad, two SIM of Aircel, five Adhesive tubes, a Map, 3kgs Explosive powder, two blanket and a Pheran.
The police said the militants were preparing IED and were planning to plant it somewhere in Tral area to inflict damages to forces.
