Cop succumbs at Palhalan in stone throwing incident

Srinagar: A police personal succumbed to his injuries after the police vehicle he was driving was attacked by a mob at Palhalan Pattan in Baramulla district.

Talking to news agency, IGP Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir said a police vehicle came under attack from a group of stone-throwers at Palhalan after Eid prayers. “Stones had hit the driver Head Constable Kawlain Singh who lost the control of his vehicle that collided with an electricity pole.”

The IGP Kashmir said the injured cop was immediately shifted to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. “Although he was hit with a stone but the exact nature of cause of death will be established after post mortem.”

Sources in police told KMW, that the deceased Head Constable has been identified as Kawlain Singh who got injured in the incident was shifted to district hospital Baramulla. The deceased Head Constable had belt number 144-B and was a resident of Singhpora-Baramulla, sources in police told KMW. “The police has registered FIR number 263/2013 in the incident,” sources informed KMW.

Reports reaching KMW said that except for the Palhalan incident, the situation in rest of the Valley remained peaceful and there was no untoward incident reported from anywhere.

The Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated across the Kashmir Valley with religious fervor and gaiety. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims in traditional dresses thronged mosques to offer Eid-ul-Adha prayers as mass animal sacrifices with religious fervour was witnessed across the valley. The congregational Eid prayers passed off peacefully, reports reaching KMW said.

The main Eid prayers were offered at Hazratbal Shrine by thousands of people. The news for celebration of Eid poured from all the district headquarters of Kashmir Valley. People exchanged the Eid greetings and sweets with each other. There was no report of any kind of incidents from any part of the Valley, reports reaching KMW said.
