Isolated Incidents Bound to Happen: Nasir.
Srinagar: In a board day light attack, suspected militants shot dead an Assistant Sub-Inspector of police in Darish Kadal area of Srinagar’s old city on Friday. Little known Islami Front has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Official sources told that suspected pistol-borne militants fired upon the cop—Sukhpal Singh (4193/S), this morning from close range near Darish Kadal, leaving him critically injured.
The cop from Bagyas-Chattabal police post was immediately rushed to nearby Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, they added.
Appointed as constable in the J&K Executive Police in 1893, Sukhpal hails from village Chatoosa-Dangiwacha in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. He is survived by old aged Mother and spouse, they added.
A guard of honour was presented to the slain cop at the District Police Lines here which was followed by the wreath laying ceremony, a police spokesman said.

Ramesh, Inspector General CRPF ADM Dr. Ravi Prakash , Deputy Inspector General of Police Central Kashmir Range Abdul Gani Mir, Deputy Inspector General-Armed Police, T-Namgyal, Deputy Inspector General, CRPF, SSP Srinagar, Srinagar based Commandants of JKAP/IRP Bn, all Zonal SSP’s of district Srinagar, all SDPO’s of district Srinagar, attended the wreath laying ceremony.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, Nasir Aslam Wani termed the attack as desperation on part of the militants.
“The level of militancy has gone down from what we used to witness before 2007….. Such isolated acts are bound to happen because militants are getting isolated and they will try to show their presence by such isolated acts,†he said.
The Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda also expressed his sympathies and condolences with the next of kins of Late cop, a police statement said.
Meanwhile, a caller identifying himself as Sheikh Jamsheed and spokesman of Islamic Front owed the attack.
“Cadres of our party carried the attack,†Jamsheed told  over phone. “An impression is given by some people that armed struggle (militancy) is over and this attack is answer to them,†he said, adding, “Armed struggle will continue from generation to generation.â€
