Cop, militant killed in Shopian

Srinagar:  A policeman and a Hizbul Mujahideen militant were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s shopian district on Saturday.  A police official told that acting on specific information about the presence of militants Doondupora-Keller Shopian, Police, CRPF and troops of 44 Rashtraiya laid a siege around the area this morning.  “Soon, a gun battle broke out, ensuing into the death of the lone militant and a Special Operation Group personnel of police.”   The officials identified the slain militant as Abdul Rashid Awan son of Mohammad Hussian of Rakh-e-Pehlipora, Keller of Hizbul-Mujahideen outfit was killed in the encounter. “Some arms and ammunition was also recovered from the possession of the slain militant,” he said. The slain SOG man identified as Head-Constable Ghulab Singh (belt No.95 of IRP-Ist Bn) was given guard of honour at police lines Shopian before his body was shifted to Udhampur for last rites.
