Srinagar: A number of Control Rooms (CRs) have been set up in the Kashmir valley to meet any challenge in case of snowfall as predicted by the Meteorological department from today till December 18.
The Met department spokesman has issued a forecast that the Western Disturbances (WD), originating in Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan will intensify tomorrow and December 14 though it WD will remain active from today till December 18.
He has warned moderate to heavy snowfall in the region, particularly in Pirpanchal range, including Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Keeping in view the warning, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon has asked chief engineer BEACON to keep machinery in a state of readiness, to clear snow from the Srinagar-Jammu Highway and ensure that the road remains open.
Official sources said that CRs have been set up in all district headquarters and summer capital, Srinagar to meet any challenge. They said all Deputy Commissioners, Head of Departments and District Senior Superintendents of Police have been asked to keep their men and machinery ready in view of an approaching WD. There is possibility of moderate to heavy snowfall over hilly areas and light to moderate snowfall at many places in the Kashmir Division from today to December 18, which is likely to intensify tomorrow and the day after.
