Cold conditions intensify in Kashmir, snow expected

Srinagar: Cold conditions further intensified in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where light to moderate rain or snow are expected later today till January 7.

Head of the disaster management cell in the Kashmir valley, Aamir Ali, said the present western disturbance over the st ate is likely to intensify.

He said this will affect Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from this evening to January 7.

It will remain mainly active from tomorrow till January 7.

Due to this weather system, light to moderate rain or snowfall will occur at most places of Pir Panjal ranges of Kashmir division and at isolated places over higher reaches of Jammu and Ladakh region.

One or two places may receive heavy snowfall tomorrow.

This system is likely to disrupt surface and air transport systems of the state.

Mr Ali said during this period the day will become cold while the minimum will be above normal.

People in the summer capital Srinagar woke up to yet another cold morning after a brief respite yesterday when the minimum was minus 2.5 degree.

However, today it dropped again and settled at minus 3.1 degree.

Icy cold winds and cloudy weather kept the mercury down. Coldest so far this season was minus 4.9 recorded on January 1. (KMW News)
