COAS apprises PM Nawaz of APS arrests

ISLAMABAD, February 24: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad and discussed with him the internal security situation of the country as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s forthcoming visit to Pakistan.

The COAS briefed the premier about the arrests made by security forces in connection with the attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School.

On Monday, one of the primary executors of the Taliban attack on APS, Taj Muhammad alias Rizwan, was arrested by security forces in an Intelligence Based Operation (IPO).

Previously, the army had claimed to have made key arrests in connection with the school attack and said that all those involved, except six suspects, had either been killed or captured.

“The gang involved in the APS attack…comprised of 27 terrorists, 12 of whom have been arrested in Pakistan and Afghanistan, nine have been killed and six are at large,” Director General ISPR Maj Gen Asim Bajwa had previously said in a press conference.

The new dates for Jinping’s visit to Pakistan also came under discussion.

Last night, Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong had met the COAS at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. During the meeting, security aspects of Jinping’s visit to Pakistan were discussed. (Agency)
