CM, PDP condemn assassination bid on Sagar

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today condemned the assassination bid on the life of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar here.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and two others, besides a civilian, were injured after militants made an abortive bid on life of Mr Sagar in the downtown city last night..
Mr Abdullah condemned the attack and directed the state police to investigate the incident and bring the attackers to book.
Minister of state for Home Nasir Aslam Wani also condemned the attack.
PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and party president Mehbooba Mufti expressed shock over the attack and condemned it.
However, they are relieved that Mr Sagar and his family members escaped unhurt and expressed solidarity with them.
They also conveyed their heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family of SPO Gulzar Ahmad.
A police spokesman said at about 2000 hrs last night some unidentified militants attacked Mr Sagar at his ancestral house at Shah Mohalla, Nawab Bazar, in the downtown city.
Three police personnel Gulzar Ahmad, Mohammad Yaqoob and Feroz Ahmad were injured in this incident. Later on Ahmad succumbed to his injuries.
A civilian Ali Mohammad was also injured in the attack, he said.
