Muzaffarabad: Civil society organisations in Pakistani administrated Kashmir (PaK) on Monday have welcomed the agreement between Indian and Pakistani top leadership to restore a cross-border ceasefire in Kashmir.
“The restoration of peace on the Line of Control would save innocent lives of the civilians who have been suffering from continuous hostility and fear on the borders.â€
In a meeting in New York Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif were agreed to restore a cross-border ceasefire after a spate of shootings which caused tension between both neighbours.
Appreciating the development Zafar Iqbal, the founder of Press for Peace (PFP) organisation described the meeting of Indian and Pakistani premiers as ‘a positive move to calm tension on the Line of Control’.
“The fresh development will reduce the heat of animosity and will lead both nations towards further strengthening of dialogue to resolve all disputes.â€
He opined that dialogue is the only way to bring peace and progress in the region.
He maintained that Indian and Pakistani premiers meeting has again proved that the forces who want to derail India- Pakistan peace process could be defeated with sanity and political maturity.
Ejaz Ahmad Mir, vice president of the LoC trade union said that violations of ceasefire have caused irreparable damage to the civilian people; therefore, both countries must honour the truce agreement for permanent safety of their citizens.
“There is an urgent need to evolve further mechanism to promote intra-Kashmir trade and people to people contacts for reunion of divided families,†he further said.
He urged India and Pakistan to bring tangible improvements in Intra-Kashmir trade to make this venture a real socio-economic success.
