CIC stressed the need for making people aware about RTI Act

Baramulla:Stressing the need for making people aware about the RTI Act, the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) G R Sufi asked Public Informaton Officers (PIOs) and Assistant PIOs to go through RTI Act fully which would help them to implement it fully.
Mr Sufi was speaking at a day-long meeting of PIOs and APIOs at Kupwara in north Kashmir yesterday, official sources said here today.
The CIC exhorted upon PIOs and APIO to provide all kind of requisite information to any applicant who seeks the information under RTI Act on the submission of application after fulfilling all the formalities in this regard.
He said applicant has to deposit Rs 50 for the purpose.
The CIC asked the PIOs and APIOs to go through RTI Act fully which would help them in implementing the Act effectively.
Mr Sufi also asked the concerned to conduct awareness camps in their jurisdiction so that people are made aware regarding the RTI act and its benefits.
The District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, Mohammad Shafi Rather welcomed the CIC and requested him to interact with the public representatives at block and Tehsil levels also.
The DDC impressed upon the PIOs and APIOs to implement all the sections of the RTI Act in letter and spirit while providing requisite information to the information seekers.
