Patna, Aug 19 Chopper carrying Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for an aerial survey of drought hit areas made an emergency landing on Friday at Gaya airport due to bad weather.
Official sources said here that Kumar who was returning Patna after an aerial survey of drought hit districts including Aurangabad and Gaya districts faced difficulty as his chopper encountered enroute cloud.
It was raining in Patna and heavy clouds hovering which forced the Chopper to return and make emergency landing at Gaya airport, sources added.
An official of Gaya airport said that decision for emergency landing of Chopper was taken due to bad weather. Heavy cloud and rains had made it impossible for chopper to continue journey for Patna, he added.
As it is, Bihar is facing rain deficient scenario due to scant rainfall in the state during the current Monsoon. A number of steps are being taken to provide relief to farmers including subsidy of Rs 75 per litre on diesel for irrigation purpose.
Chief Minister Kumar had convened a series of meetings and directed officials to take all possible measures to provide relief to farmers facing drought like situation in the state.
