Chief Secretary, Ladakh, Ashish Kundra Conducts First Visit of Kargil After Assuming Charge

Kargil, January 10, 2025: Chief Secretary, UT of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra (IAS) today arrived in Kargil on his maiden visit after assuming charge. The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Administrative Secretary, Education, Ms. Bhanu Prabha; Administrative Secretary, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Rahul Sharma; Director, Health & Medical Education; Chief Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD); and Chief Engineer, PDD and other officers.

The Chief Secretary was accorded a warm welcome at at Hinasku by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho; Additional Superintendent of Police, Kargil, Ishtyaq Kacho; Sub Divisional Magistrate, Shakar Chiktan, Ravi Shankar; Executive Engineer, PHE, Sadiq Gul and other District officers.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary inspected the 17 Madras Unit at Bodh Kharboo, where he was received by Colonel DSA Robin. He reviewed the facilities at the unit, during which a demand was raised for macadamization of the road from the main road to the 17 Madras Unit in Bodh Kharboo. The Chief Secretary directed the Chief Engineer to take necessary action in the matter.

The Chief Secretary also visited the Nunnery at Bodh Kharboo where local representatives submitted a memorandums highlighting various issues related to floor tiling, mobile tower connectivity and other infrastructure development needs and sought intervention. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to take up the issues on a priority.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited the Mulbekh Chamba where he was briefed about its historical and religious significance. The villagers raised demands pertaining to Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), an ice hockey rink, a public gathering ground as well as a lift irrigation scheme.

Subsequently, he visited Government Cluster Council Middle School, Tharumsa in Pashkum where Executive Councillor, LADHC-Kargil Kacho Mohammad Feroz was also present. While addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary thanked the people of Kargil for the warm reception despite the harsh winter conditions. Emphasizing that education forms the foundation of unity in Ladakh, he said education remains the top priority of the administration. He stressed the importance of community participation in strengthening the education sector and assured that the UT Administration is providing all necessary facilities, including winter heating arrangements, to enable students to compete at national and global levels. He assured all possible support from the UT Administration in this regard.

In his address, Executive Councillor Kacho Mohammad Feroz thanked the Chief Secretary and accompanying officers for their visit. He requested the upgradation of the school to the High School level and sought sanction of savings funds for construction of additional classrooms. He informed that student enrolment in the school has increased to 150 students due to coordinated efforts of the administration and community involvement. Later, the Chief Secretary inspected the classrooms, library, laboratories and other facilities of the school.
