SRINAGAR: Terming recent statements of a political party as misleading and hypocritical, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has said it is recorded history that they resorted to worst form of discrimination with Srinagar City with regard to its development and other relative activities during their tenure.
“Those who have championed in discrimination should not deliver sermons”, he maintained
The Minister was interacting with scores of deputations during his tour of the Srinagar city in connection with Moharram
Mr. Sagar said that the disgruntled party has now resorted to spreading rumors and falsehood. He said several developmental schemes of Srinagar city were stalled like the prestigious 300 crore Dal Gate Zakura road project and widening of city roads.
The funds allotted by the ADB which were meant for holistic development of the city were diverted by the particular party during its tenure besides funds to the tune of Rs. 6500 crore under JNRUM allotted for the proper and systematic development of this historic city were also deflected, he said and added that the party, which is now getting frustrated by the work done by the present government, has now resorted to cheap politics of lies.
“5500 vacancies of Srinagar district were averted thereby depriving the educated youth of Srinagar from employment opportunities”, Mr. Sagar said and maintained that the party was responsible for trying to create rural –urban divide by its divisive agenda by pitting regions and communities against each other.
Mr. Sagar said that the present government does not believe in giving preferential treatment to any area or region but believes in equitable development of all regions and in this regard several welfare schemes and programmes have been launched.
Referring to different projects undertaken by the government for proper development and beautification of Srinagar, one of the oldest cities of the world, the Minister said that the work on the stalled road projects, road widening, construction of flyovers, beautification of Dal, revival of Nagr Nagar, building infrastructure and developing the old city Srinagar on heritage pattern have been initiated by the government. He appealed people to understand the importance of peace which is very important for carrying out the developmental activities.
