Centre ready to go extra mile for peace in Nagaland

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured political leaders from Nagaland that the Centre was ready to go “extra mile” to ensure lasting peace in the restive northeastern state.A delegation of political leaders from Nagaland, which called on the Prime Minister here yesterday, called for lasting peace in the state which is plagued with insurgency for the past many decades.
The Prime Minister told the delegation that this was the right time to resolve the issue and the government was ready to go extra mile to bring in peace and normalcy in the state.
The delegation, comprising members of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee and Congress Legislature Party, also stressed the need to resolve the Naga conflict within a definite time frame.
They also stressed the need for “transparency in the political dialogue”.
The delegation, led by NPCC president S I Jamir and CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi, told the Prime Minister that 14 years of peace negotiations and 10 years of ceasefire agreement without any concrete result, was meaningless, sources said.
