New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the Centre is examining the report of the Jammu and Kashmir interlocutors submitted to him on October 12. “We are examining the report of the interlocutors and once examined it would be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with my report on it,” Mr Chidambaram told a news conference called to submit a monthly report of his ministry. The report reportedly calls for review of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and gradual withdrawal of Disturbed Areas Act from certain parts of the Kashmir Valley. The report, however, stays away from the contentious issues of ‘azadi’ and autonomy, saying the clock cannot be turned back in the Valley. The report also touches upon human rights violations and talks about cultural diversity of Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state. According to the report, cultural diversity must be promoted and economic opportunities in the region should be encouraged and promoted.
