Kargil, November 02: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, along with Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa, today inaugurated the football pitch of Salim Sports Club at Dumbuthang, Baroo.
Councillor of Baroo-Minjee Constituency, Adv. Khadim Hussain, Councillor of Tai Suru, Abdul Hadi, and former CEC, Asgar Ali Karbalai, among other dignitaries and locals were present.
In his address, the CEC lauded Salim Sports Club for their proactive efforts in creating a sports facility that will nurture local talent. He highlighted the potential of Kargil youth, who continue to make their mark at national and international events across various fields.
Dr. Akhoon assured that the Hill Council stands ready to support such initiatives and encouraged sports as a viable career path. He also threw light on the importance of sports in enhancing physical and mental well-being.
He also announced Rs 2 lakh from the untied funds for the procurement of sports equipment through Youth Services and Sports Department.
While expressing optimism for Kargil youth, MP, Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa said that the new football pitch would provide facilities for local footballers and help them reach greater heights in their athletic pursuits.
Former CEC, Asgar Ali Karbalai also congratulated the club, encouraging local athletes to aim for international success in athletics.
Later, Councillor Baroo-Minjee Adv. Khadim Hussain also expressed gratitude to all concerned in bringing this project to fruition and assured support for the club’s future endeavors and also delivered the vote of thanks.
