CEC Kargil Negotiates Historic Settlement, Ending Long-Running Youljuk-Khows River Dispute

Kargil, October 29: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today successfully resolved the long-pending dispute between the villages of Youljuk and Khows in the Suru region.

An official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between representatives of both villages, outlining that the crade construction work along the Suru River will be carried out simultaneously and equally on both sides of the river. The MoU further stipulates that the Shiring Tsok area will be divided equally between the two sides.

It was also agreed that proper channelization work of the river will be undertaken to maintain and regulate water flow, ensuring that no damage is caused to property on either bank.

Additionally, the MoU includes a provision to ensure adequate water supply for fish farmers residing in the vicinity.

Calling it a historic and unanimous resolution, Dr. Akhoon appreciated the cooperation of both villages and urged residents not to create any hindrance to developmental works in the area. He also directed the Executive Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, to re-tender the project immediately so that work can commence at the earliest.

Later, the CEC visited Government High School Youljuk, where he inspected the school’s functioning and interacted with students. During the visit, staff members highlighted the urgent need for Science and Mathematics teachers. Dr. Akhoon assured them that the matter would be addressed promptly and further informed that a Headmaster will soon be appointed to the school.

The CEC was accompanied by councillor Aga Ain-ul-Huda, Abdul Hadi, Executive Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, AD Fisheries,former Executive Councilor Aga Syed Abass Razvi, incharge SDM Sankoo, Incharge Thesildar, 2nd SHO Panikhar, besides representatives of both the villages and locals were present.
