CEC Kargil Attends Culmination Ceremony of Teachers’ Training Program at DIET Kargil

Kargil, November 01: The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the culmination ceremony of a three-day teachers’ training program held at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Kargil under the theme “Inspiring India in Research, Innovation and STEM Education.”

The training, organized from October 29 to 30, 2025, was conducted under the Teachers Development Strand – District Level Cascade Workshop in collaboration with the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Principal DIET Kargil, Madam Khurshida, who briefed about the training program and requested the extension of the existing training hall to accommodate future workshops. She informed that a total of 137 teachers participated in this training initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon lauded the contribution of the teaching community in shaping the future of society. He emphasized that teaching is one of the noblest professions, acknowledging that many teachers dedicate their lives to the growth and development of students.

The CEC highlighted that LAHDC Kargil has framed a transparent transfer policy that will be implemented in the near future. The aim of the policy is to recognize and safeguard the welfare of teachers and to ensure quality education.

Dr. Akhoon further informed that land has already been allotted to DIET Kargil for establishing a Centre of Excellence and assured that the extension work for the DIET training hall will be prioritized in the upcoming Capex plan.

He appreciated the efforts of IISER Pune resource persons for conducting an impactful and innovative training session that focused on enhancing the teaching of core subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics through modern and practical methodologies.

Highlighting various government initiatives in the education sector, Dr. Akhoon mentioned the REWA Scheme introduced to support students preparing for competitive examinations like the UPSC Civil Services. Under the scheme, 40 students each from Kargil and Leh will receive financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for coaching and ₹18,000 for lodging and boarding. He urged teachers to motivate and guide students to utilize such opportunities for their academic and professional growth, stating that “collectively, we can build and strengthen the future of our district.”

Team Head of IISER Pune, Mr. Mohammad Taqi, also addressed the participants and provided insights into the objectives of the training program. He emphasized the importance of innovative and inquiry-based learning approaches to make STEM education more engaging and effective.

The program concluded with the distribution of certificates among participating teachers and resource persons in recognition of their successful completion of the training.

The event was attended by Chief Education Officer, Sonam Wangchuk; Principal DIET Kargil, Madam Khurshida; IISER Pune resource team led by Mohammad Taqi; and participating teachers from across the district.
