Kargil, March 05: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the closing ceremony of Ex Serviceman Archery Cup 2025 at Mini Stadium Sankoo.
Major General K Mahesh SM, VSM, GOC 8 Mountain DIV, Brigadier Amit Bola, XEN, SVD, Sankoo, Tehsildar Sankoo, Army Officers, and officials with hundreds of archery lovers from different villages attended the closing ceremony.
In his address, the CEC appreciated the dedication of the ex-servicemen in preserving the rich cultural heritage of archery and emphasized the importance of such events in promoting physical fitness. He also lauded the Indian Army for their support to ex-servicemen.
Dr. Akhoon praised the strong relationship between the Army and locals in Ladakh, highlighting the role played by the Hill Council Kargil in the welfare of ex-servicemen. He stated that the Hill Council Kargil has already allotted land for an ex-servicemen’s office in Kargil. Commending the Indian Army as one of the best in the world, he also expressed pride in the Indian cricket team’s victory against Australia yesterday, calling it a proud moment for the nation.
Regarding the demands, he stated that the upgradation of existing Mini Stadium in Sankoo is already planned. He also assured support for the construction of a Community Hall for ex-servicemen in Sankoo Sub Division. Additionally, he announced a grant of ₹3 lakh from the untied funds for the purchase of furniture.
He also stated that the Hill Council Kargil is organizing various events across villages in Suru Valley, which was recognized by National Geographic as one of the 25 best destinations in the world.
He urged the Indian Army to provide training for youth aspiring to join forces and commended its initiatives, including Sadbhavana Schools and Air Force services in Kargil. He highlighted that, for the first time in history, the Zojila Axis remained open until February 28.
Notably, 80 teams from across the district participated in the Ex-Serviceman Archery Cup 2025. In the modern archery final, Jaffaria Lankarchey emerged victorious over Royal Archer Sangrah, while in local archery, Rangyul Thasgam secured the title by defeating Shaheen Purkichey.
