CEC flags off organic farming campaign in Kargil

Kargil, March 17, 2025: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today flagged off an organic farming campaign to promote sustainable agricultural practices in the district.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Executive Councillor for Cooperatives, Er. Punchok Tashi, Registrar Cooperatives Ladakh, Syed Sajad Qadri, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Headquarter Assistant, Kaneez Fatima, Assistant Registrar, Manzoor Hussain, along with other officers and officials.

Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Dr. Zakir Hussain informed that to support the initiative of Organic Ladakh, 20,000 quintals of organic fertilizer, including vermicompost, PROM (Phosphate Rich Organic Manure), and potash, have been procured under the Special Development Package (SDP). These fertilizers will be distributed to farmers at an 80% subsidy rate, encouraging them to adopt organic farming practices.

The first consignment of fertilizers was flagged off today for Sodh block, as the beginning of the distribution process started. The campaign is a step towards promoting sustainable agriculture in Kargil. Notably, administration had stopped purhasing chemical fertilizers to promote organic Ladakh.
