Kargil, May 13: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon visited the drought-affected village of Sharbatgone in the Sodh Constituency after holding a morning meeting with concerned Councillor Manzoor Hussain and officials from the Irrigation and Mechanical Departments.

During the visit, residents of Sharbatgone expressed grave concerns over the severe water scarcity, reporting that the village has nearly dried up due to the lack of irrigation water.

Dr. Akhoon witnessed the conditions firsthand and instructed Executive Engineer, Irrigation, Ghulam Hussain to accelerate the completion of the lift irrigation project to ensure immediate water availability in the region.

Dr. Akhoon further directed the concerned departments to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a canal-based irrigation system. He emphasized that this initiative will not only benefit Sharbatgone but also neighboring villages. He assured the public that the canal project will be included in the first phase of development, with initial testing expected to be completed by May 25, 2025.

The CEC was accompanied by Councillor Sodh, Manzoor Hussain, Executive Engineer Ghulam Hussain, Assistant Executive Engineer, Junior Engineer, along with other departmental officials, senior citizens, and public representatives from the area.
