Kargil, Dec 16: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the closing ceremony of the 45-day Crochet Crafts Training held at Rego Café TFC, Kargil organized by Handicraft Department Kargil. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, Joint Director Finance, Iftikhar Hussain, Joint Director Planning, Abdul Hadi, Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Kargil Rehmatullah Bhat, District Superintendent Handloom, Arifa Iqbal Lone, Assistant Commissioner Development, Raziya Khatoon, Accounts Officer KDA, Shamim Ahmad Wazir, Accounts Officer to Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Zakir Hussain, trainer Nazar Nasir, as well as artisans and other participants.

In his address, Dr. Akhoon appreciated the efforts of the Handicraft Department for organizing the training and empowering local artisans with valuable skills. He emphasized the importance of promoting local crafts to ensure cultural preservation while creating employment opportunities.

Highlighting the potential of crochet craft in boosting the local economy, Dr. Akhoon assured that the LAHDC Kargil will continue to support such initiatives. “Skilled artisans are the backbone of our society and such programs are important not only for preserving traditional crafts but also enhancing the self-reliance of our people,” he said.

In his welcome speech, Assistant Director Handicrafts highlighted the importance of conducting such training and also demanded land for office construction to which the CEC assured for necessary action.

Assistant Commissioner Development, Raziya Khatoon, also praised the participants, lauding their talent and dedication throughout the training. She emphasized the need for continued efforts to explore such talent to uplift the local artisans.

Trainer Nazar Nasir shared his experience, highlighted the enthusiasm and hard work of the trainees, while participants expressed gratitude to the department for organizing the training. They also urged the Handicraft Department to conduct similar programs in the future to further develop their skills. Later, certificates were distributed to the participants, recognising their successful completion of the training.
