Kolkata, Aug 14 A team of forensic experts of the Central Bureau of Investigation arrived in the city from Delhi on Wednesday and started its probe into the rape-cum-murder of a trainee doctor in a government hospital last week.

Sources said the federal agency may also seek police remand of arrested accused Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer of the state government.

Following the direction of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the original Tala Police station FIR, which includes charges of rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital complex last Friday.

Meanwhile, out-patient services in both government and private hospitals across West Bengal remained affected following an eight-hour cease work, which began at 8 am, called by a joint forum of the doctors to protest the rape-cum-murder.

The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors has demanded justice and future safeguards against crimes against medical professionals.

An Indian Medical Association team also arrived in the city to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the victim’s parents.

IMA president R V Asokan and general secretary Anil Nayak also met agitating doctors at the RG Kar hospital, sources added.
