Madurai: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court (HC) dismissed a petition filed against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, seeking the Court direction to the local police to register a case against him for his remarks on a resolution passed by Tamil Nadu State Assembly to commute the death penalty of three convicts in Rajiv Gandhi Murder Case.
The petitioner attempted to gain cheap popularity by filing frivolous petition leading to wastage of precious time of the Court, Justice K Chandru, while dismissing the petition filed by Advocate K Neelamegum, yesterday.
Mr Abdullah made a statement on ‘twitter’ that the response would not have been muted, if the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had passed a resolution similar to the one passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 31 last, to commute the death sentence of Parliament Attack Case convict Afzal Guru.
Justice Chandru said the statement of Mr Abdullah did not attract any of three offences viz Section 124 A (Sedition), 298 (Wounding religious feelings) and 505 (Statements creating enemity between Classes) of the IPC as pointed out by the petitioner.
