Srinagar: A two-member team of Canadian envoys visiting Kashmir called upon Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nageen residence here on Monday.
Mirwaiz, while apprising the envoys—head political section at Canadian commission in New Delhi, July G Benteley and economic advisor to the Canadian high commissioner Sumitra Dev— about peaceful mass protests during the past five months and the “brutal†government response, urged the Canadian government to press India for putting an end to human rights violations in Kashmir.
“Mirwaiz told the delegation that until the Kashmir issue is not resolved in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people the region would be mired in uncertainty. Therefore, for political instability in south Asia the issue of Kashmir must be resolved at the earliest,†a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.
