Melbourne: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi survived a second set scare to beat Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Arnaud Clement and advance to the third round of the men’s doubles event at the Australian Open here today.
Bopanna and Qureshi, who had an easy first round outing on Wednesday against the Brazilian pair of Franco Ferreiro and Andre Sa, had to overcame a stiff challenge from the French duo before winning it 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The 10th-seeded ‘Indo-Pak Express’ managed just one break-point in the first set, but lost the momentum in the next to lose it.
However, the decider was a tight affair but the Indo-Pak pair capitalised on the opportunities that came their way to prevail over their opponenets in 90 minutes.
Bopanna and Qureshi, runners-up at last year’s US Open, will next take on France’s Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimmonjic of Serbia.
Meanwhile, star Indian duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi will play Spain’s Feliciano Lopez and Juan Monaco of Argentina in their second round match tomorrow.
