Srinagar: Amid stone pelting and teargas shelling incidents complete strike was observed in North Kashmir’s Baramullah District for the second consecutive day against the presence of Army Camp in old Town Baramullah.
Scores of youth resorted to stone pelting in Azad Ganj, Cement Kadal and near Fire Service office. Police and CRPF personnel used tear smoke shells to disperse them, however the youth regrouped themselves after every hour.
Unknown masked asked youth told reporters that they have called for 10-day strike against the presence of Army camp in the town. The youth have given an ultimatum to the government to shift the 46 RR Army Camp located in old Town.
All the shops, business establishments, petrol stations, and educational institutions remained closed while transport was off the roads. Large contingents of police and Paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads while concertina wires were laid on roads to restrict the movement of the people.
Pertinently, 46 RR personnel had allegedly shot a youth Tahir Ahmed Sofi last month after which people demanded the evacuation of the Army from the camp.
