Srinagar, Jul 02(KMW): Jammu and Kashmir State is known for unfortunate regressions and one step forward five step backward phenomenon in governance .In this concern through reliable sources it is learnt that after a span of few months, the Jammu and Kashmir government has once again allotted personal security to many leaders after their repeated requests.
Reports reaching to Onlykashmir[dot]in, Kashmir Media Watch state that as many as 200 leaders including head of newly formed political party Jammu Kashmir Peoples Movement Shah Faisal, Awami Itihaad Party President Engineer Rashid, PDP Youth leader Waheed ur Rehman Para.
“Security cover of 919 undeserving persons in Jammu and Kashmir has been withdrawn, thereby freeing 2,768 police personnel and 389 vehicles,” the Ministry of Home Affairs had said in April.
Pertinently, the final call on giving security to leaders or activists is based on threat perception and a Committee consisting of Chief Secretary, ADG Security, ADG CID and other few top officials decide the allotting of security with main onus in this regard on Chief Secretary and ADG Security.
Analysts and political watchers feel disappointed with this decision. An eminent security analyst pleading anonymity stated: “Security to leaders drains lot of money from Public Exchequer and is in a way very damaging to an already poor state like Jammu and Kashmir, when the security was withdrawn it had raised hope that dead wood will not be pampered further but once again providing security to those withdrawn suggests we are not talking the right direction in Jammu and Kashmir. Only who have real life threats should be given security and not those who want to give via having security a status statement to poor masses. These politicians in the name of being in mainstream have had no ideology towards country but have always run helter skelter to fulfill their interests “
It looks visibly clear from moves like these that the famous line “Back to Square One “ applies more often than not to Kashmir.
